The Friends of Recreational Ice Activities (FRIA) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting, supporting, and expanding recreational ice activities in Huntsville, Alabama.
Formed in 1992, FRIA works in partnership with the City of Huntsville and the Benton H. Wilcoxon Ice Sports Center to ensure that our community continues to have access to a safe, vibrant, and high-quality ice facility.
FRIA exists to:
Encourage participation in ice sports for people of all ages and abilities.
Support the maintenance and improvement of the Ice Sports Center.
Fund programs and equipment that strengthen skating, hockey, and curling in North Alabama.
Build community through education, outreach, and shared recreation.
From replacing critical rink equipment and supporting community performances like The Nutcracker on Ice to planning for future expansion and dedicated curling facilities, FRIA plays a hands-on role in every stage of Huntsville’s ice development.
We connect donors, volunteers, and local leaders to make a lasting difference on and off the ice.
